Over $6 million for the Ottawa Police Service Board will help fight crime and keep people
safe
OTTAWA — Ottawa Police Service Board is receiving over $6 million as part of the Ontario
government’s more than $91 million investment to help protect families and communities
across the province. The funding is being delivered through the Community Safety and Policing
Grant Program and will be used to enhance the community policing approach, strengthen
neighbourhood-based crime prevention initiatives, and expand supports for individuals at risk
of involvement in street-level violence.
“Residents of Carleton and Ottawa deserve to feel safe, supported, and protected in the
communities they call home,” said George Darouze, MPP for Carleton. “This key investment in
the Ottawa Police Service will allow for continued growth in a service-wide community
approach which will enhance public safety and invest in local priorities to continue to make
Carleton and Ottawa a safe place to live, work, and play for years to come.”
As part of this funding, the Ottawa Police Service will receive support for two key projects:
- $5,760,817.00 for Consolidating a Service-Wide Community Policing Approach which
will strengthen neighbourhood-based engagement, align with the City’s Community
Safety and Well-Being framework, and support local crime prevention initiatives.
- $306,350.00 for Time 4 Change (T4C) which provides intensive supports and
interventions for individuals at risk of involvement in street-level violence, including
case management, skills training, and community reintegration.
“The Provincial Government continues to support the Ottawa Police Service and the City of
Ottawa with very meaningful and significant funding.” Said Ottawa Police Chief Eric Stubbs. “I
thank Premier Ford, Minister Kerzner and MPP Darouze for the additional support via the
Community Safety Grants. Both grants will contribute to the Ottawa Police Service’s strategic
priorities and with a focus on proactive work to increase the safety in our neighbourhoods.”
The Ottawa Police Service Board projects are two of 127 projects being funded across the
province for 2025-26. Of the 127 projects, 88 projects will address local priorities and 39
projects will address provincial priorities, including gun and gang related violence, sexual
violence and harassment, human trafficking, mental health and addictions, hate-motivated
crime, housing and homelessness, and commercial/retail theft.
“Our government is delivering on our promise to protect Ontario and keep communities safe,”
said Solicitor General Michael Kerzner. “Through this funding, we are helping to build safer
communities by ensuring Ontario’s police services have the resources they need to address
local issues and improve the well-being of the people they serve.”
The Community Safety and Policing Grant Program supports policing initiatives that focus on
local or provincial priorities and provides eligible police services/boards and municipalities
policed by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) with funding to deploy front-line officers where
and when they are needed most.
